Cosmic Chi

by Petra Schüßler

“Cosmic Chi” (cosmic life energy) is a deeply spiritual work and the only digitised piece from my special pastel series of 2005. The composition captivates with its interplay of a warm white and light grey background, featuring distinct textures created by thick layers of paint. At the centre, luminous forms rise up in pulsating orange and Indian yellow, reminiscent of a hot-air balloon in cosmic realms, instantly flooding the space with pure light.

The title represents the universal, all-encompassing life energy Chi, which permeates both the macrocosm and humankind. Creativity is the direct flow of this energy. Inspired by prehistoric cave paintings, the composition is dominated by painterly, reworked fingerprints and delicate vertical lines that blend into the surrounding structures. Applied entirely without a brush – using only a palette knife and my fingers – I have also etched meditative mantras and mysterious symbols directly into the damp surface.

As part of an interior design scheme, ‘Cosmic Chi’ makes an elegant, spiritual statement. It exudes a stimulating warmth whilst also conveying a floating, meditative lightness. As a square focal point in the living room, bedroom or wellness area, it magically draws the eye and is perfectly suited to people who wish to bring a harmonising energy field, full of creative life force, into their home.
