Colourful animal portrait: Fly

by Christian Ovís

Colourful Animal Portrait: Fly depicts an imaginative fly with two very large yellow eyes. Each eye has a purple iris with a small white spot. The blue-green head has small light dots and a simple dark outline around the mouth. Two thin antennae with round orange tips point upwards. To the right, behind the body, light-coloured wings appear, rendered with fine, continuous lines.

The insect is depicted at an angle against a dark turquoise background. Thin purple legs hang down and bend at the joints. The body features blue, green and soft purple shading, with a warm orange accent at the base of the wings. The large round eyes lend it a playful, almost wonder-struck character. Tiny dots and faint green circles keep the background lively. The distinct outlines of the head and legs remain clearly visible amongst the softer areas of colour.

This insect illustration is ideal as wall art for a child’s bedroom, play corner or creative workspace. Yellow and orange add warmth to the cool blue palette. The colours complement light-coloured furniture and a few cheerful accessories. The large face is given plenty of space on a plain wall. On closer inspection, you can spot the wing lines, tiny dots and curved leg shapes.
