About "Blue hour in the Wachau near Dürnstein"

About the artwork

The Wachau, my home. My family has lived in the Wachau for generations. And even though I have since found my home in St. Pölten, it is a landscape that never lets you go. No wonder the Wachau is popular and well-known far beyond our borders. People come here year after year to spend their holidays on the Danube. To hike through the vineyards or to drive along the river.

I love hiking up the hills here. They offer an incomparable view of the Danube valley.

After a hike along the south bank of the Danube, I return to the valley at blue hour. Opposite me is Dürnstein with its monastery and famous ruins. King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned here. You surely know the story of the faithful singer Blondel. Above the village you can see the ruins of Dürnstein. Below, the striking monastery with the blue tower. Here in Lower Austria, there is a wonderful abundance of landscapes. From vineyards to deep forests. From wild to gentle. From hilly to flat. With colourful cellars and striking farms. With historic towns and modern architecture. I was born in the middle of the Wachau, now live in the provincial capital of St. Pölten - and spend every free minute travelling in "my" Lower Austria!
