The Wachau, my home. My family has lived in the Wachau for generations. And even though I have since found my home in St. Pölten, it is a landscape that never lets you go. No wonder the Wachau is popular and well-known far beyond our borders. Many come here year after year to spend their holidays on the Danube. To hike through the vineyards or to drive along the river.
I love to hike up the hills here. They offer an incomparable view of the Danube valley. Impressive at any time of year. At sunset, picturesque and so far.
From Spitz on the Danube I hike up to the Buchberg. It's worth turning around. What a view of the Hinterhaus ruins and the vineyards! Here in Lower Austria there is a wonderful abundance of landscapes. From vineyards to deep forests. From wild to gentle. From hilly to flat. With colourful cellars and striking farms. With historic towns and modern architecture. I was born in the middle of the Wachau, now live in the provincial capital of St. Pölten - and spend every free minute travelling in "my" Lower Austria!
