I am fascinated every time I get a good look at this bird. The black-tailed godwit with its beautiful bill is very characteristic of Dutch meadow birds. Right at the start when a young godwit tries to hatch, you can see the egg tooth on its beak. With this, the little bird zips open the egg and can free itself from the narrow space inside the godwit egg.
Soon after the young bird dries up, it already starts looking for food because that is what they do instinctively.
Here a black-tailed godwit with its young that hatched a few hours before. Later in the afternoon it often gets colder so the young black-tailed godwit's come to warm up under mother's wings. She then calls them in anxious groups and spreads her wings in advance. This often happens invisibly and far away, but after endlessly observing them, it worked. You really keep looking at this image and it triggers many a conversation with children and adults alike. What a great gift to a meadow bird lover.
