On one of my expeditions to Sahel, we came to a village in Niger. To get permission to explore the area, the old men of the village had to grant permission. Here three of the main elders who communicated with us. Elders have a lot of experience because of their age, of course. These men provided leadership in the village we entered and they gave us permission to operate in the area. The interest they mainly represented was Water and Food. We were welcomed hospitably and a meal was prepared for us. Immediately a row was slaughtered and cooked on the fire. I was impressed by their hospitality and friendliness. Those qualities come naturally and helped teach me to give the best you have. The photo still reminds me of that every day.
