This photo was taken in July 2022 in the municipality of Kluisbergen in the Flemish Ardennes. Some time before sunset I came across a group of deer, on the other side of the barbed wire. This deer looked nicely to the left and the grasses were nicely shaded by the summer light. By the way, it is still a mystery to me whether the deer belonged to someone or if they were there on the dole.
To me, the image has something timeless about it. It could also have been made long ago. Furthermore, the deer is peering into the distance. At first it looked at me, but then it looked sideways. To hold its gaze for a long time. What is the deer looking at? And why is it standing there? This image raises questions.
