The rutting season or the mating season (estrus) is a period in which animals have an urge to mate. This is caused by hormonal changes in the body of the animal. The rutting season of an animal species begins with the fertility of the female. The male reacts to this. In both male and female animals, changes in behavior, smell and appearance can often be observed during the rutting season.
Male animals behave more aggressively due to an increased amount of testosterone in their blood, making them more capable and more prone to rival other males. Other males will be aggressively approached and fought.
