I saw this Alpine ibex during a photo trip in the Gran Paradiso national park in northern Italy.
This species lives in herds and are very easy to approach. They are not at all skittish and pose steadily in front of photographers' lenses.
The coat colour is mainly brownish grey, with some dark spots. The belly side is pale or white and a clear demarcation can be seen on the flanks. The horns of males grow to be between 75 and 98cm long.
The horns of females grow up to 34cm long.
The Alpine ibex is diurnal and eats grasses, herbs, mosses and, in winter, lichens. They live in separated packs with their young throughout the year in packs of 10 to 20 animals.
