About ‘A poppy field in the evening light’ by Marcel Hechler

I was out and about in the Kraichtal that evening, just before the sun disappeared behind the hills. As I rounded the bend in the path, this poppy field lay before me — and I simply stopped in my tracks.

Countless red poppy blossoms glow amongst the tall grasses, bathed in the golden glow of the evening light. Some stand upright, others sway gently, and if you look closely, you’ll spot the occasional delicate blue flower amongst them. Behind them lies the gentle, rolling landscape of the Kraichgau: fields in shades of green and warm brown, scattered trees, dark forest edges and, in the haze, the distant mountain ranges on the horizon.

The light that evening was soft and warm, almost like a final golden touch to the day. It was precisely this sense of vastness and stillness that I wanted to capture — that moment when you pause briefly and the evening slowly settles into tranquillity.

For me, this image evokes summer in the countryside, warmth and a deep breath. Hanging on the wall, it brings this sense of calm into the room: above the sofa, in the bedroom, or anywhere where a warm, nature-inspired motif is welcome and the eye can find a moment of reflection.
