"Lofoten 101" is the ninth and final digital artwork in a series that explores the artist's personal and emotional landscape. This work depicts the front door of his first home: the place where his family was born, grew and eventually found its own way. The door, glazed and full of character, symbolises beginnings and farewells, security and letting go. Every detail, from the nameplate next to the door to the reflection in the glass, has been digitally captured with care, emphasising the intertwining of time and memory.
Raised in Utrecht, the artist visibly carries his roots in this work. Although the title "Lofoten 101" refers to distant, rugged Northern Lights landscapes, the work essentially tells about home: not as a physical place, but as a feeling. The combination of realistic textures and subtle lighting effects creates an almost tangible intimacy. Small symbolic elements - an umbrella in an umbrella stand, a NEE/JA sticker on the letterbox - lovingly refer to the stages of life that took place behind this door.
With Lofoten 101, the artist closes an important chapter, both in his art and in his personal life. The work is an ode to growth, to roots, and to the inevitable departure. At the same time, it constitutes a promise: that every door, once opened or closed, always leads to a new story.
