"Zonstraat 94" is the eighth digital artwork in a series of nine, in which the artist visually explores memories of his childhood and early adulthood in Utrecht. This particular work shows the front door of his very first home of his own - a small, characteristic house on Zonstraat, nestled in a quiet neighbourhood where city sounds fade into background noise.
The image is composed of subtle layers of digital textures, which make the weathered wood of the door, the grain of the brick façade and the frosted glass of the overhead light tangible. Through the use of colour - warm greens and browns softening to pastel blues in the overhead light - the work exudes a sense of nostalgia and personal reverie.
Although the door is closed, a slight reflection is visible in the glass, as if the memory of a young life full of hope and expectation is still burning inside. Small details, such as a house number sign or a Yes/No sticker on the letterbox, give the image an intimate, almost tangible reality.
As part of the series, "Zonstraat 94" marks a transitional moment: breaking free from the parental home and beginning an independent existence. For the artist, born and raised in Utrecht, this work is more than an image - it is an anchor point in his personal and creative development, a tribute to the place where his adult life began.
