"Teherandreef 5" is the sixth work in a series of nine digital artworks that together tell the intimate story of the childhood and identity of the artist, born and raised in Utrecht. Central to this artwork is the front door of the parental home: a simple yet characterful door that symbolises security, growth and the roots of his personal and artistic development.
The front door on Teherandreef 5 is digitally rendered with a subtle play of light and shadow, carefully capturing the texture of weathered tiles and the facade. Details such as a nameplate with the house number evoke a sense of nostalgia. Behind this seemingly ordinary door, a universe of memories unfolds: childhood fantasies, first dreams, fears and triumphs.
The artist opts for a calm, almost meditative composition, merging realism and slight abstraction. The background is deliberately kept vague to put the full emphasis on the door; after all, it is not the street or the city that speaks here, but the door as a gateway to an inner landscape.
Teherandreef 5 is not only a tribute to a physical place, but also an investigation into the meaning of 'home'. Within the series, this work marks a transition: from childlike innocence to the first steps of coming of age, in which the familiar slowly opens up a wider world. The series as a whole thus weaves a subtle, personal history through the urban fabric of Utrecht.
