"Prinsenstraat 18" is the first work in a series of nine digital artworks in which the artist explores his personal environment. At the centre of this piece is the front door of his own home: an austere yet characterful gateway that seems to whisper stories to whoever will listen. The door, in weathered blue, bears the marks of time, use and the rhythm of daily life. Small details - the flaking paint, the painted house number, the playful light falling through the glass - draw the viewer in and invite reflection.
The composition is tight and carefully chosen. A subtle play of shadows and a slight distortion in perspective create a sense of tension between intimacy and distance. The artist uses digital techniques to emphasise textures: the wood, metal, glass become almost tangible. The colours are muted, with occasional unexpected warm tones, reminiscent of memories that suddenly light up.
"Prinsenstraat 18" is about coming home, about identity and about the inconspicuous beauty of the everyday. By enlarging and digitally manipulating something as simple as a front door, the artist gives his own story and that of countless others a visual voice. As the first work in the series, "Prinsenstraat 18" sets the tone: an ode to the places that shape us without us always realising it.
Address: Prinsenstraat 18, 3581JS Utrecht.
