Kuala Lumpur, the capital of the Southeast Asian country of Malaysia, is located in the southwest of the Malay Peninsula. The city of Kuala Lumpur stretches over 243 square kilometers in the Klang Valley, which stretches between the Strait of Malacca, which separates Malaysia from Indonesia's Sumatra, and the Titiwangsa Mountains. The Klang River, which joins the Gombak River in the urban area of Kuala Lumpur, connects Kuala Lumpur, about 30 kilometers inland, with the sea.
