The yellow lis (Iris pseudacorus) is a plant in the lissen family (Iridaceae). It is a 0.8-1 m tall riparian plant of fresh, stagnant or slow-flowing water. The plant grows in water up to about's 30 cm deep. The long, narrow leaves have a slightly raised central vein and remain green throughout the year.
The flowers can be seen from May to June and are 5-12 cm across. The flower has a large green bract, three large drooping petals, and three smaller petals. After flowering, the seeds are stacked like a roll of coins in triangular seed pods. They contain air cavities that make them float.
