View with huts on a road, Philips Koninck, 1655 oil on canvas, h 134cm × w 167.5cm.
A vast landscape under a high sky. A few dunes give at most a little relief. Koninck specialised in flat landscapes that he built up from countless dots, like the knots of a carpet. His use of colour and loose painting style show the influence of Rembrandt. He based the three huts on the left on an etching by Rembrandt from 1650.
