Italian landscape with pine trees, Hendrik Voogd, 1795
Hendrik Voogd went to Rome in 1788 with the support of an Amsterdam patron. He joined the international artists' colony there. This painting, the earliest known of his, shows his specialty beautifully: the park-like landscape around Rome full of ancient remains, painted in a cool bright light.
