The Donge power plant brought the first private power plant to North Brabant in 1919. The construction of the plant was an initiative of the Provincial North Brabant Electricity Company (PNEM), which later merged into Essent. Over the years, most of the electricity production was taken over by the nearby Amer power plant. The original plant was demolished back in the 1990s, and in 2011 electricity production stopped for good at the Dongen plant. The filter building and the main building now have national monument status. As a member of Fotolumni, an association of the NAVB for graduated professional photographers, I took photos in the building of the former Dongen power plant. Stichting Boei offered us this unique opportunity. I converted the photos to Black and White with the exception of the yellow accents indicating the safe route past the impressive machinery. Meanwhile, the central building of the monumental building has found a new use and events are being organised there.
