In late 2011, I travelled through Cambodia with my boyfriend and 3-month-old baby. In the morning, we set off with Lima in the buggy or in a baby carrier on my back on the bike. Together, we visited the capital Phnom Penh, the Silver Pagoda, The Killing Fields, Battambang and the beautiful temple city of Angkor Wat. During her afternoon nap, we enjoyed the beautiful gardens and swimming pools at various boutique hotels.
I took this picture during our visit to the royal palace in Phnom Penh, where a mourning ceremony was taking place at the time due to the death of King Sihanouk. Only the temple Wat Preah Keo, also known as Silver Pagoda, was open. The entrance gate of this special temple has a blue steel gate consisting of a Buddha image. I took the photo of the middle part of the fence with my telephoto lens, making the image sharp and the background blurred. This composition gives the photo a particularly graphic effect.
