About "Transformation 1 - Buddha Flower Sri Lanka"

by Tessa Jol Photography

About the artwork

I took this picture of a weathered Buddha prayer card and a burnt flower candle while visiting the market in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The bright pink contrasts beautifully with the pale blue. For me, this image represents impermanence and letting go as part of a Buddhist life path; have no expectation, hope or desire.

At the time, I was making a photo report for Max Havelaar on Fairtrade tea, spices and coconuts and visited the beautiful tea fields and fair trade plantations.

The Dahlia flower is a work of art in itself, every flower is unique and there are 1000s of varieties. The Dahlia is loaded with powerful symbolism and spiritual meaning, for instance, the flower is seen as a symbol of dignity and elegance and given as a sign of commitment and eternal love. The different colours of Dahlias each carry their unique symbolism. For instance, pink Dahlias symbolise tenderness and femininity.

Transformation 1 is part of a triptych: Transformation 1, 2 & 3. You can also buy it as a single picture or as a diptych.
