In winter, we Dutch look forward to freezing. After all, if it freezes hard and long enough, we can skate on natural ice. Swans, on the other hand, cannot wait until the freezing weather is over and they can easily get to fish again. For us, the ice was just not thick enough to skate on, but it was thick enough for this swan waiting for its next fish meal.
