The still dynamism of a woman’s back. by Alies werk

This abstract impasto oil painting depicts a stylised human torso in an expressive, tactile style on a fine linen canvas.
Composition & Form
• Central figure: An abstracted torso or back, framed and defined by thick, undulating red lines of paint.
• Abstract planes: The figure is constructed from a mosaic of diagonal, straight and square blocks of colour which together suggest an anatomical representation.
• Background: A neutral, softer background in light pastel shades of grey, light blue and soft pink, built up with broad palette knife strokes.
Colour & Texture
• Impasto effect: The oil paint has been applied in thick, tactile layers. Palette knife marks and brushstrokes create physical relief and shadow effects on the canvas.
• Colour palette: A striking contrast between deep, dark shades (midnight blue, violet, anthracite) in the upper half and vibrant accents (lemon yellow, magenta, turquoise and emerald green) in the lower half.
• Interplay of lines: Flowing, glossy red paint edges cut vertically across the image and tie the separate areas of colour together.
The work exudes a raw, dynamic atmosphere in which texture, colour and the power of geometric form take centre stage.
