For many people, it is the most important tree in Heiloo: the lime tree on the Kattenberg. The at least 300-year-old tree was badly damaged by storm Poly in spring 2023. It was planted in the early 17th century. It is a real 'eye-catcher' of Nijenburg estate. All the people from Heiloo who walk here know this tree and cherish 'm also according to the Natuurmonumenten Foundation.
The right half of the tree's branches fell down from the Kattenberg.
Many people came here in their childhood. And children walk past it during the evening four-day walk. People taking a stroll in the forest also always walk past the Kattenberg and the monumental lime tree.
Here is a shot from a few weeks before the storm that was so disastrous for this tree. To emphasise the grandeur of the lime tree, a graphic adaptation of the infrared image of the Kattenberg was chosen here.
