About ‘The glacier’s surface’ by Marcel Hechler

Seen from the air, the glacier loses all sense of scale and becomes a surface of lines and veins. Light, blue-grey ice jostles alongside dark bands of debris and scree that the glacier has carried with it over the years. In between, fine cracks and folds criss-cross the scene, almost like furrows in old skin. On the right-hand edge, a lighter strip breaks through the cool tones.

The photograph was taken in the Ötztal, above the Gaisbergferner. I was travelling there on holiday and let the drone rise above the ice until nothing of the surrounding mountain could be seen any more — just this raw, scarred surface. Right next to it lies the Granatenkogel; its name comes from the garnets found in this rock. For me, this knowledge resonates with every dark grain in the ice, even though the mountain itself is not in the picture here.

The atmosphere is cool and still, with a touch of mystery. The image does not depict a specific vantage point, but rather structure, time and the slow power of ice.

As a wall hanging, the motif has a calm, graphic quality. It suits modern, minimalist spaces where a single cool surface says more than a colourful eye-catcher.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
