In the heart of the city of Malang, on the island of Java in Indonesia, lies a district that has become famous for its spectacular metamorphosis: the village of Jodipan. Once an ordinary, run-down shanty town, it has been transformed into an explosion of colour, a symbol of hope and community renewal.
Every house, every wall and even the pavements are painted in bright shades of blue, yellow, green, pink and purple. The result is a veritable open-air masterpiece, where everyday life lights up to the rhythm of the brilliant shades. The project, initiated by communications students, aimed to restore dignity and attractiveness to the district, while raising awareness among residents of the need for cleanliness and sustainable tourism.
The river that runs through Jodipan reflects the colours of the façades like a moving mosaic, creating a joyful and unique atmosphere. Today, this rainbow village has become a must-see attraction for curious travellers, as well as a symbol of social transformation and participatory art.
Under the Java sun, Jodipan is more than just a place to visit: it's a lesson in life, a celebration of colour and human resilience.
