About ‘Hundred-year-old cacti dominating the Salar d'Uyuni’ by Frank Photos

Incahuasi Island, also known as Cactus Island, stands in the middle of the Salar d'Uyuni, the largest salt desert in the world, in Bolivia. This exceptional site is famous for its giant cacti, some of which grow up to 10 metres high and are hundreds of years old. Surrounded by an endless expanse of white, the island offers a striking contrast between the blue of the sky, the brilliant white of the salar and the green and brown tones of the cacti.
This ancient volcanic island is also home to coral limestone rock formations, remnants of a past when the region was covered by a prehistoric sea. Accessible on excursions to the Salar, Incahuasi is a privileged vantage point from which to admire the immensity and singular beauty of this desert. The experience of walking among these thorny giants while contemplating the infinite horizon is unforgettable. A must for nature lovers and photographers alike.
