About ‘The bird that rarely shows itself.’ by Peter Bartelings

This work shows a bittern virtually blending into its natural surroundings. The bird stands along the water's edge, surrounded by a tangle of branches and reeds, whose colours and lines closely match its mottled plumage. This creates a subtle play of camouflage and observation: only on careful observation does the bittern stand out from the background.

The composition emphasises calmness and concentration. The inclined position of the head and the sharp gaze suggest alertness, as if the bird could strike at any moment. The reflection in the water below reinforces the sense of stillness and balance, while the horizontal lines of branches and water surface contrast with the bird's vertical pose.

The work exudes a natural austerity and shows how fauna and landscape merge. It invites the viewer to look slowly and discover details, just as the bittern itself relies on patience and unobtrusiveness to survive.

About the image maker: as a born and bred Amsterdammer, Peter feels a close connection to the city of Amsterdam. Over the years, he has captured the city of Amsterdam in many iconic works. Other cities at home and abroad also fill his portfolio. Landscape and macro photography are also part of his work.
Meanwhile, he has also earned his spurs as a digital artist, especially with adaptations of old masters.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
