This photo was taken in Tolmin Gorge, or Tolmin Gorge, in Slovenia. Ice-blue water flows between narrow rocks, grinding the gorge deeper and deeper. Green moss covers the rocks in the water and the slippery walls of the gorge. The whole thing looks like a little piece of paradise.
Because the water in the gorge comes from the mountains, from melting glaciers, and is filtered through the rocks, it is rich in minerals. Those minerals give the water its icy blue colour. It may look tropical, but the water is icy cold.
The Tolmin Gorge is a busy place in Slovenia. A tourist attraction. And rightly so, because the gorge is indescribably beautiful. If you want to visit the gorge, choose to do so in winter or early in the day. The light is more beautiful then and there are fewer people around.
