The impressive building of the Supreme Court of Poland has 86 columns with Latin and Polish inscriptions. The so-called Sentences on the building of the Supreme Court of Poland are a time-honored document of a selection of Roman legal sources and important statements on law and justice. The added translation into Polish, in letters just as large as the Latin version, makes them understandable for every citizen. While Roman law had become almost irrelevant during the period of socialism, here it becomes visible and comprehensible as the legal pillar of contemporary Poland. Today, it forms a common basis for European law.
