About "The Story of the Melting Iceberg"

by Gerry van Roosmalen

About the artwork

In the quiet Kongsfjord near Tasiilaq floats a majestic iceberg, a sculpture of pure nature. The upper part, radiantly white as freshly fallen snow, catches the light of the Arctic sky. Below it, the icy waters reveal a fascinating blue glow, a hidden world stretching beneath the surface. The contrast between white and blue symbolises the duality of strength and fragility, of visible beauty and hidden depths.

Slowly but inevitably, the ice melts, joins the fjord and begins a timeless journey. This water will one day disperse, rising as vapour, and descending like snow on a distant glacier. The process repeats itself over millennia, a silent reminder of nature's eternal cycle of life and change.

This photograph not only captures a moment of transience, but also offers a glimpse into the grandeur of nature. The interplay of reflection, texture and colour makes this image ideal for lovers of ice landscapes, water, natural wonders, and the fascinating beauty of Greenland.
