Experience a unique piece of railway history - this impressive photo shows the legendary Rübeland Railway.
The Rübeland Railway is one of the most technically demanding railway lines in Germany. It connects Blankenburg with the Harz town of Rübeland and runs through a scenically impressive low mountain region. Steep ramps, narrow curves and striking viaducts characterise the route, which was specially designed for heavy goods traffic - especially lime transport.

The Rübeland Railway is characterised by its powerful locomotives, which are designed for extreme gradients of up to 60 ‰. For decades, special machines were used here, including heavy electric locomotives and later modern traction units that meet the high technical requirements. The locomotive symbolises power, reliability and engineering skill.

Embedded in the rugged Harz landscape, the line combines industrial practicality with impressive natural scenery and makes the Rübeland Railway a unique testimony to German railway history.

Once a month, you can enjoy this legendary railway experience - organised by the
Arbeitsgemeinschaft Rübelandbahn, the more than 100-year-old steam locomotive (the "95 027", affectionately known as the "Bergkönigin") travels the route from Blankenburg to Rübeland and sometimes also on the Blankenburg - Halberstadt line.

The Rübeland railway has always stood for technical mastery, pioneering spirit and the courage to overcome steep paths.
