The Peperbus in Zwolle in the snow during sunrise

by Bas van der Gronde

This photo shows the Peperbus in Zwolle as you rarely experience it: covered in snow, during sunrise and captured from the air with a drone. It is the blue hour, that brief moment in the morning when night slowly gives way to day. The sky is still cool blue, while warm hues are already appearing on the horizon from the rising sun. That contrast makes this winter drone photo extra special.
The Peperbus, officially the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwetoren, is at the centre of the image, towering high above Zwolle's snow-covered city centre. The roofs surrounding the tower are coloured white by the snow, creating a peaceful and almost magical atmosphere. Street lamps and windows give off a warm, yellow light that contrasts nicely with the cold blue of the snow and sky. From this drone perspective, you can see how the Peperbus really is the heart of Zwolle.
For fans of Zwolle, winter photography and drone images, this is a recognisable and powerful image. If you are looking for photos of the Peperbus in the snow, the Peperbus during sunrise or a drone photo of Zwolle in winter, this photo shows exactly why this city icon is so photogenic. It is a moment of stillness, cold and beauty, captured at the perfect time.
