Despite its name, the Oderteich is a dam. The reservoir is part of the Oberharzer Wasserregal cultural monument and was built between 1715 and 1722. In connection with the Rehberg ditch system, it once supplied the Andreasberg mines with water. Today, the Oderteich has lost this function and is part of the World Heritage Site of the Upper Harz Water Management. The circular route around the Oderteich is worth a hike at any time of the year, as the forest landscapes of the National Park have also developed flora and fauna worthy of protection in the riparian areas. However, this hike is particularly recommended in high summer, as there are designated areas on the east and west banks to take a refreshing dip.
