I am a professional photographer and my business is called ThomasVaer Fotografie. I live in Sneek and my studio is located in Lemmer. I am the official skûtsje photographer for both the SKS and IFKS skûtsjesilen sailing competitions. My photos are published in newspapers and magazines. For many years, I sailed as a crew member on a skûtsje myself. After suffering a heart attack, I had to stop participating in this fantastic sport, so I turned to photography to stay as involved as possible. I missed the action and the excitement of the races.
My photography is inspired by renowned yacht photographers such as Beken of Cowes, famous for their stunning posters and calendars of classic yachts. The work I offer on Werk aan de Muur is unique because I am the regular photographer for the skûtsjesilen and, as such, I am right in the heart of the action on a fast press boat.
I have been nominated three times for the international Yacht Racing Image contest for professional sailing photographers, winning first prize once and third prize twice with my photos.
