About "The Lost Trolls of Reynisdrangar"

About the artwork

In the far south of Iceland, where the ocean pounds roughly against the coast, the Reynisdrangar rise from the dark sea. These majestic rocks, also called the "trolls of the sea" carry the weight of age-old legends. According to Icelandic folk tales, they were once trolls who wanted to pull the mountains into the sea at night, but unfortunately their magical power was not strong enough to evade the dawn. With the first light of morning, they turned into the impressive rock pillars we can still admire today.

In this photo, you can see the westernmost stack, one of the tallest rocks, its rugged contours standing out against the dark sky. It seems as if time itself stood still in the moody atmosphere that speaks from the post-processing. The deep shadows and ominous light bring to life the mystique of the troll story, in which the sea, the rocks and the night play the leading roles. It seems as if the trolls, trapped in their rocky guises, can still enchant you with their stories, if you look hard enough.
