About the artwork
Wine estate De Apostelhoeve is located on the southeastern slope of the Louwberg, the west side of the Jeker valley in Maastricht. The plot is close to the Belgian border.
The wine tradition in Dutch has been there since Roman times. After the Middle Ages, this Dutch tradition stopped and gave way to other forms of agricultural operations. In the year 1970, the first vines were planted on the southern slopes of the Jeker valley, on the land of the Apostelhoeve.
At one of Limburg's most beautiful spots on top of the Louwberg, one of the Netherlands' oldest and largest wine estates, the Apostelhoeve, flourishes.
In spring, when the buds on the vines burst forth, the Louwberg is shrouded in soft green, and the growth and blossoming of a new vintage of good, better, best product begins, which after various phases ends up in the familiar glass bottle that many a wine lover eagerly awaits each year. Meanwhile, Limburg hills are increasingly being replanted with vines and the annual production of good Limburg wines in hectolitres is steadily increasing.
