About "Heuvelland South Limburg, rolling lovely landscape, holiday country in the Netherlands."

About the artwork

South Limburg, hill country of the Netherlands. Holiday country par excellence, a piece of abroad within Dutch borders. Precursors of Eifel in Germany and Ardenne in Belgium. Many small-scale landscape elements, hollow roads, bocage or coulisse landscape. Chalk country, limestone grassland, marl country, flora and fauna just that bit different.
Limburg hill country, at the edge of the flat land, the narrowest part of the Netherlands. With many dialects, small villages, militias and brass bands, processions, carnival, flans, and so on. Burgundian South Limburg with forests and streams, with the Meuse, Geul and Gulp as blue feeder veins through the landscape.
The daily weather, often just a little different, a little quirky.
Wonderful to walk through the green world, which offers a different view after every bend and over every hill. Where many castles still lurk in the bronze-green oak forest, where historical construction is still abundant and keeps the atmosphere of yesteryear alive. Half-timbered houses, marl buildings and monastery masonry, in every village you can still find buildings built from these, often still in daily use, preserved, restored, and preserved for generations to come.
