The Boeing 737 is a twin-engine passenger aircraft built by Boeing since 1967. With more than 10,000 aircraft built, it is the best-selling commercial aircraft worldwide. Southwest Airlines is the largest user worldwide; in Europe, Ryanair has the largest fleet.
The 737 Max is now the 4th generation of the 737 family. Design of the first Boeing 737 started in November 1964. The type was designed to complement the larger 707 and 727 passenger aircraft and was intended for regional flights. Initially, it was envisaged to carry 60 to 85 passengers, but as German Lufthansa found that insufficient, the number of seats was increased to 100. The first Boeing 737, a 100-seat aircraft with a flight range of 1,100 kilometres, made its maiden flight on 9 April 1967.
