Cruising from Cape Verde to Salvador de Bahia in Brazil, you pass the equator. This area, the doldrums, is known for its windlessness. At the end of the night, my watch was almost over. I briefly enjoyed a beautiful sunrise before going to bed to catch up on some sleep. The first sun rays of the day make for a beautiful spectacle. As the sun rises rapidly around the equator, the light and colours change every moment. So to take this picture, I had to be quick. The dark low-hanging clouds form, in two strips, perspective lines towards the rising sun. Because of this, and thanks to the second layer of higher clouds, the photo has extra depth. The sun, still just behind the clouds, gives a dramatic effect.
