Garachico is the ancient capital of Tenerife. The city was built on an outcrop of a lava flow. Up to the tide line, every bit of flat land was used to build on. Indeed, steep mountain walls go straight up around the city. A winding path allowed me to climb one of the walls to take this photo. The city's character is defined by a palette of cheerful earthy tones, interspersed with white buildings. The vastness and space on the sea is in stark contrast to Garachico's narrow cosy streets. The photo is extra interesting because the curve of the town over the horizon is mirrored in the curve of the clouds. The rock in the sea is the exception. I hope this photo evokes a typical summer feeling that belongs to the Canary Islands.
