About ‘Sunrise at the Delta Works’ by Sander Poppe

In the working harbour of Neeltje Jans stands a remarkable piece of Dutch hydraulic engineering history. This spare pier was once built for the storm surge barrier in the Oosterschelde, but was ultimately never used. Today, it stands alone in the water, a silent reminder of one of the Netherlands’ largest infrastructure projects.

On this peaceful morning, the sky above the Oosterschelde was tinged with soft shades of pink, purple and blue. Thanks to the long exposure time, the water transformed into a mirror-like surface in which the colours of the sunrise were subtly reflected. In the foreground, basalt blocks and the contours of the shallow water create a sense of depth without disturbing the tranquillity of the scene.

What appeals to me about this place is the combination of technology and nature. The pillar appears solid and unyielding, whilst the water and light are constantly changing. It is precisely this contrast that gives the photograph its character.

Thanks to the calm colours, the open space and its minimalist character, this image exudes tranquillity. It is a photograph that would look particularly good in a home, office or public space where tranquillity, history and a connection to water are valued.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
