About "Sunlight carved in wood"

by Ben De Winter

About the artwork

This photo of the sunset in Mers-les-Bains is a visual poem, captured in light and shadow. The sun hangs low above the horizon, like a fiery orb slowly sinking into the calm sea. Its golden rays caress the surface of the water, casting a warm glow over the whole scene. The sky is a painting in itself, with soft transitions from orange to blue, intersected by fine wisps of clouds that lie across the firmament like brushstrokes.

In the foreground are two white beach cabins, sleek and symmetrical, like sentinels of the coast. Their wooden walls catch the sunlight and reflect it in a soft, almost ethereal sheen. The reflection of the light on the cabins gives them an almost magical appearance, as if they are momentarily detached from their earthly function and become part of the play of light.

The pebble beach on which they stand subtly shimmers in the evening light, with a texture that contrasts with the smooth lines of the cabins. A wooden path winds between the stones, gleaming with sunlight.

The composition is carefully balanced: the natural elements - sea, sky, sun - are harmoniously complemented by the human presence of the cabins. The colours are warm and inviting, but also melancholic, like the moment itself: a farewell to the day.
