Flakstad church, located on the Lofoten Islands in northern Norway, is a striking red wooden building with a pointed bell tower in the centre. The church is surrounded by some outbuildings and traditional Norwegian houses.
The field in the foreground is partly snow-covered, with straw-like clumps of grass rising above the snow. In the background, impressive snow-capped mountain peaks rise up, providing a dramatic backdrop and giving the landscape a rugged and remote character. Overcast grey skies complete the winter atmosphere.
The architecture of the church and its location among the mountains make this a typically Scandinavian scene - simple, robust and in harmony with nature.
