They have a long, straight and stout bill.
Storks like marshy areas and eat insects, mice, moles, small reptiles, amphibians and other aquatic inhabitants, although some are also scavengers. They have no call because muscles are missing in their throat and therefore use beak clacking to communicate.
They have a stately gait and, unlike herons, they fly with their necks extended. They often hover around in groups on thermals, sometimes to high altitudes.
