Still Life - Salmon Slices and Sardines, Tsuchida Bakusen (1924)
The painting was done right after the artist’s grand tour of Europe. The detailed still life reflects the influence of artists of the northern Renaissance. Bakusen’s painting style later came to resemble that of the flowers and birds painting style of the Sung and Yuan dynasties.
Tsuchida Bakusen was the art-name of a Japanese painter in the Nihonga style, active during the Taishō and early Shōwa eras. His birth name was Tsuchida Kinji.
