A photo of a hypnotic spiral with nice round shapes attached to it. It has become almost an abstract image.
These nice round things are called 'sea beans' and sometimes 'dwarf sea apple'. The scientific name is Echinocyamus pusillus.
They are the skeletons of a small sea urchin. They are usually no larger than 1 centimeter in diameter.
The living sea urchins are beautiful gray-white with lots of tiny spines. The skeletons of these sea urchins sometimes wash up on the beach. I found these in Ouddorp (Goeree-Overflakkee, the Netherlands).
The skeletons are generally pretty white. This inspired me to make a black and white photo of them.
The round shape inspired me to put them in a spiral shape.
To me, this spiral represents life. There is a beginning and there is an end. It is also a kind of circle shape (the circle of life). A path you follow in your life.
These sea urchins also had a life and what was left over after they lived, I used for the picture here. This way they live on a little.
Beautiful photo with a lot of symbolism. Beautiful as an inspiring moment of rest in your home or office.
I see making art as a creative process.
The starting point of this process for me is always a photo or a painting of my own. Every work of art on this site is therefore based on a self-made photo or painting.
I find my sources of inspiration in everything around me...
