The polder mill de Wicher in Kalenberg is the only spinning windmill in Overijssel. In spring, rapeseed blooms in abundance, adding a beautiful atmosphere to the landscape. The mill used to serve to keep the water level in 'the Boonspolder' at the right level.
The Weerribben-Wieden is one of the largest low moors in north-western Europe. The beautiful patterns in this wetland area were created by man. Living and working in a low moor swamp means living with water. Besides large ponds, the area consists of a tangle of small wetlands and narrow watercourses. There are windmills everywhere to manage the water level.
