While walking in the Deelerwoud, Veluwezoom between Apeldoorn and Arnhem, I came across a group of Scottish Highlanders. I had gone hiking there that particular day, because it had finally snowed again in the Netherlands. As this is my favourite nature reserve, I had to see them in the snow too. Armed with my camera, I came across a group of about 10 Scottish Highlanders, with their calves! They were right on and next to the path and, of course, attracted a lot of attention.
I love this picture very much myself, so it hangs in our living room (really). First I wanted it in colour, but my boyfriend wanted a black-and-white version. And he was absolutely right!
By giving the photo a black-and-white treatment, the composition of the photo becomes even more unified. The photo almost feels post card-like. Many would say, you did not follow the 1-3 rule, but in my opinion that is not necessary with this photo. The Scottish Highlander and her calf dominate the photo, just as they dominated that area back then.
