Saskia with pearls in her hair, Rembrandt van Rijn, 1634
etching, h 86mm × w 67mm More object data
This etching of a young woman from 1634 was not recognised until late as a portrait of Rembrandt's wife Saskia. She wears pearls in her hair, around her neck and on her ears. The dress and lace cloth she wears around her shoulders are fashionable and contemporary. Rembrandt and Saskia were married in 1634, so perhaps this is her portrait in bridal wear.
